All are invited to partake in the joy of Métis culture during the 2016 Métis Week. From November 13th until November 19th, Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) welcomes the public to celebrate the rich culture and contributions of Métis people. The week is structured around the Louis Riel Commemorative Ceremony at the Alberta Legislature on November 16th. Additional activities planned for this year include the Louis Riel Commemorative Walk, Flag Raising Ceremony at City Hall, MNA Open House and much more! Please read on for more details.

Additionally, Métis youth and students have an opportunity to participate in a lapel pin art contest and apply for scholarships. Lapel pin art winners and scholarship recipients will be recognized during Métis Week. Please see below links for more information.

Sunday, November 13
6th Annual Louis Riel
Commemorative Walk
10:00 am: Walk begins, 12:00 pm: Commemorative Service at St. Margaret’s Church,
1:00 pm:Lunch at Deville-North Cooking Lake Hall
Start Location: St. Margaret’s Church
In honour of Louis Riel, the 6.6 km commemorative walk with horse and wagon rides to St. Margaret’s Church signifies the procession made by Riel’s family and community to his funeral. Shuttle service will be provided to the walk start point from the MNA Provincial Office at #100-11738 Kingsway Ave. Please RSVP to amagee@metis.org to reserve your spot on the shuttle.

Each year, Métis Nation of Alberta, Métis Nation of Alberta Region 4, and the City of Edmonton host a proclamation and flag raising ceremony in commemoration of Métis Week. Food and entertainment will be provided following the ceremony.

Métis people across Canada pay tribute to the Right Honourable Louis Riel by holding a commemorative ceremony on the date of his execution, November 16th. Following the ceremony, participants are invited to gather at the Métis Nation of Alberta Provincial Office for an open house.

The MNA is hosting our Annual Open House which will feature an artistic display of various Métis Artists. Visitors will have the opportunity to see colorful beaded textile masterpieces, jig along to lively fiddle tunes, and take a tour of our Genealogy Research Centre to discover their Métis family history! Lunch will be provided.

Join the Métis Nation of Alberta for a day of cultural activities! Beading and jigging workshops will take place from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. Dinner will be served between 5:30 and 6:30 pm which will be followed by the Delia Gray Awards from 6:30 pm until 7:00 pm. The evening will be capped off with a festive jam.
