Statement from the Otipemisiwak Métis Government on the passing for former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government of the Métis Nation within Alberta is saddened to learn of the passing of the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney. Prime Minister Mulroney was a true friend of the Métis.
In 1992, Mulroney and the Métis National Council successfully negotiated the Métis Nation Accord. However, once the Charlottetown Accord fell through, our government, and our sister governments had to start over.
Over 30 years later, we continue that work in trying to advance Métis self-government with Bill C-53.
We offer prayers and healing to the Mulroney family in their time of grief.
