GENEALOGY ASSISTANCE FOR POTENTIAL APPLICANTS

The responsibility lies with the applicant to provide their genealogy details back to the mid-1800s, including complete names, birth dates, and places of birth of the Métis ancestors they wish to have verified. Alternatively, you may reference a current family member who is a recognized Citizen of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government.

However, we may assist potential applicants who require help completing their family tree to meet the necessary time frame for application. Gather all relevant family background information and contact our Genealogy Department.

We offer in-person family tree assistance at the Provincial Office every Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on a walk-in basis—no appointment needed. If you’re unable to visit in person, call the office at 1-780-455-2200 or 1-877-454-0684 and ask for the Genealogy Department.

If you are already a Citizen of the Métis Otipemisiwak Government, you are entitled to request a copy of the original family tree provided during your application. Please email your request to registry@metis.org.
