The Supports and Services Navigator (SSN) helps to direct Métis Albertans to various programs, supports, and resources appropriate to their specific needs. The SSN can provide guidance for Métis Albertans as they navigate services to ensure appropriate supports and resources are being accessed.

The Supports and Services Navigators can provide additional support in the areas of:

  • Benevolence Fund: This fund has been developed to help Métis families facing financial hardship after the recent loss of a loved one.
  • 60s Scoop Database – The SSN’s keep up to date information regarding supports for 60s scoops survivors including events and lawsuits. To be added to our database, connect with us via phone or email.

What is the Support and Services Navigator (SSN)?

The Support and Services Navigator is a free support that is designed to help to you find information and supports that fit your unique needs. We can provide guidance, resources, and referrals to programs for a wide range of inquiries.

Who can use this service?

Anyone in the community can access the SSN. This includes citizens, non-citizens, and professionals.

Is there a cost for this service?

No, there is no cost to access the SSN.

What types of supports can I get help with?

The SSN can help find resources and information regarding:

  • Housing
  • Financial Assistance
  • Health Services
  • Mental Health
  • Addictions
  • Employment
  • Education
  • Legal
  • Food
  • Seniors
  • Disability; and more.

How do I access the navigator?

You can access the SSN by phone, email, or in person. We also accept referrals from service providers and agencies.

Do the SSN’s have gift cards?

The SSN do not have access to gift cards or financial assistance.

Do I need a referral to speak to a navigator?

No referral is needed. You can reach out directly at any time.

What should I expect during my first meeting?

During your first meeting, the SSN will take time to get to know your unique circumstances. You may be asked some questions about your needs and any supports you may have already connected with.

This meeting is casual and taken at your own pace. Together with the SSN, we will determine what supports you are eligible for and create a plan to address your needs, including providing referrals, helping fill out forms, and providing follow – up support.

Is my information kept confidential?

Yes, your information is kept confidential within the Health Department. With consent, we may reach out to external departments or agencies.

Can the navigator help if I’m in crisis?

The Support and Service Navigator is not a crisis responder. We can help you with accessing crisis services that are external to the MNA. If you need immediate assistance, please call 211.

How long can I work with a navigator?

There is no time limit with working with a navigator. We will work with you as long as needed to help you feel supported and confident in your next steps.

Does the MNA have health benefits?

At this time, we do not have extended health benefits for services including vision care, prescriptions, or medical equipment. Please look through our Community Wellness Programs for more information on health supports that we do have.

Does the MNA have financial support?

All of our funding is attached to programming. We do not offer a general or emergency financial assistance.
