QuitCore

QuitCore is a 12-hour virtual program that focuses on a variety of topics, including nicotine dependence, reduction techniques, nutrition, physical activity, and stress management, and provides participants with numerous resources, tools, and tips. Graduates of this group program receive a ‘QuitKit’ and are eligible for a $500 Alberta Blue Cross benefits card. This card can be used for nicotine replacement therapies (NRTs) such as nicotine gum, lozenges, spray, patches, inhalers, and cessation medications.

QuitRetreat

QuitRetreat is a place for QuitCore graduates and their families to gather at Métis Crossing for a weekend of celebration and connection with community, culture, and the land.

Land-Based QuitCore Program

Land-based QuitCore Program condenses the content from our virtual QuitCore Group Program into a weekend gathering at Métis Crossing. This program offers Métis Citizens the opportunity to practice tobacco reduction tools, learn about NRTs, all while connecting with the land and Métis culture.

Métis Crossing

Join the Otipemisiwak Métis Government Health Department at Métis Crossing for the Land-Based QuitCore Program. In partnership with Alberta Health Services, find the tools and strategies you need to change your nicotine habits.

Learn through guided sessions on topics such as:

  • Importance, Confidence, and Readiness
  • Physical Dependence
  • Identifying & Coping with Triggers
  • Recognizing & Responding to Stress
  • Building your support system and resources
  • And much more.

During the sessions, you will also take part in cultural activities to help enhance your learning experience. You will have the opportunity to connect with others on a similar path while enjoying activities such as a bush walk, hydroponic garden tour, making a traditional tobacco pouch, and participating in archery.

Attendance is mandatory for the entire weekend to be eligible for a $500 Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) benefits card. If any portion is missed, you will not be eligible for the $500.

If you are a Citizen of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government who is over 18 and looking to change your commercial tobacco habits, inquire about our Fall 2025 event by emailing tobaccoreduction@metis.org

Registrants must arrive by 5:00 p.m. Friday when programming begins and should notify staff during registration of any issues walking on uneven ground.

Citizens must provide their own transportation to and from Métis Crossing. Mileage will be provided at .35/Km.

NRT Program is QuitCore condensed into a 3-session virtual program offered to Métis Albertans who are looking to access NRTs to support their commercial tobacco reduction goals, without committing to the full 12-hour QuitCore group program. Graduates are eligible to receive a $500 Alberta Blue Cross benefits card that can be used to access NRTs and cessation medications.

 

ChangeCore Peer Support Group

ChangeCore is our weekly commercial tobacco support group, hosted by QuitCore graduates. This support group provides a space for Métis Albertans on a tobacco reduction journey to connect and support each other virtually.
