Statement on Roger Bilodeau Being Granted Day Parole
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government of the Métis Nation within Alberta strongly opposes the decision by the Parole Board of Canada to grant Roger Bilodeau day parole on April 25, 2024.
We are stunned and saddened that letters sent by the Sansom and Cardinal families, community members, as well as the RCMP’s opposition, were ignored by the board. This continues a troubling trend of a lack of justice for indigenous victims of crime.
While Mr. Bilodeau gets his freedom back, the families of Jacob Sansom and Maurice Cardinal are still grieving, and we request that the public respect their privacy during this difficult time.
