Statement on Results of Metis Nation of Alberta Special Assembly
Posted on: Jun 07, 2022
Citizens of the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) on June 4th, 2022, voted in favour of a resolution brought before a Special Assembly asking that the next election scheduled for 2022 be postponed by one year to September 2023.
The bylaws of the MNA require a threshold of 75% of attendees be in support of the resolution for it to pass and the threshold was met. The next provincial council election will be held in September 2023.
The extra year will provide the Constitution Commission with time to finalize a report of ‘what we heard’ and revise a draft constitution that will be for citizens to consider at our General Assembly in August of this year.
Following that all citizens of the MNA will have an opportunity to vote on the draft constitution during a ratification process for the new Otipemisiwak Métis Government.
