Statement from the Otipemisiwak Métis Government on the Hon. Murray Sinclair
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government joins with Indigenous communities and all Canadians in mourning the loss of the Honourable Murray Sinclair, an advocate for justice, equity, and reconciliation. His work, from serving as Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to his influential career as a judge and senator, fundamentally reshaped the conversation about the lived experiences of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
Murray Sinclair’s commitment to sharing the truths of residential school Survivors and advancing reconciliation has been an extraordinary source of strength and inspiration. His courage and compassion have left an imprint on both our hearts and in our communities. Today, as we mourn the loss of this pillar in Canadian advocacy, we also reflect on his achievements and his vision for a better future. Our government hopes to honour his memory by renewing our dedication to justice, understanding, and unity.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Murray Sinclair’s family and loved ones. May his spirit continue to inspire us to move forward with the same integrity and resilience he showed throughout his life.
