The Otipemisiwak Métis Government congratulates the Honourable Rajan Sawhney on her appointment as Alberta’s new Minister of Indigenous Relations and extends our best wishes to all newly appointed members of the Executive Council of Alberta.
“The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is eager to work with Minister Sawhney in her new role as we continue our journey toward greater self-determination and self-government,” said Andrea Sandmaier, President of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. “We remain committed to advancing the rights and interests of Métis Citizens in Alberta and collaborating with Alberta to provide the services, supports and opportunities our Citizens need to succeed.”
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government also extends its appreciation to the Honourable Rick Wilson for his service as Minister of Indigenous Relations and looks forward to continuing to work with him in his new role as Alberta’s Minister of Mental Health and Addiction.
The Province of Alberta and the Otipemisiwak Métis Government have established several partnerships, including the Healing Waters Recovery Community, which will play a vital role in supporting Métis Citizens and all Albertans seeking recovery from addiction.
These changes within the Government of Alberta present a renewed opportunity to address important issues for our Citizens, including Alberta’s Credible Assertion Policy and the expansion of our Harvesting rights to Southern Alberta. Our government looks forward to working collaboratively with Minister Sawhney and all of Cabinet to advance Métis rights and priorities in Alberta.
