Statement from MNA President Audrey Poitras on the Pope's pilgrimage to Lac Ste. Anne

Today we were honoured to welcome Pope Francis to the pilgrimage at Lac Ste. Anne, a site that has long been held sacred to Métis, First Nations and Catholic pilgrims alike.
Lac Ste Anne is a place of healing, and one that means a tremendous amount to Métis in Alberta. While we were happy to welcome His Holiness to this sacred land, we hope that this visit marks a milestone on our journey of healing. Words and apologies are not enough. We hope that by feeling the spirit of the Métis, connected so deeply with a place sacred so to the Church, this will lead to real actions and accountability, so that we as a people may focus on healing.
