Otipemisiwak Métis Government Welcomes Alberta’s Minister of Tourism and Sport to Métis Crossing

Posted on: Feb 09, 2026

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government welcomed Alberta’s Minister of Tourism and Sport, Andrew Boitchenko, to Métis Crossing on January 28, marking an important opportunity to strengthen relationships and highlight Métis Crossing growing role as a premier cultural tourism destination in Alberta.

President Andrea Sandmaier and Métis Crossing CEO Juanita Marois, hosted the Minister for a tour, showcasing its continued development and its significance as a place where Métis history, culture, and economic development come together.

“The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is very proud of Métis Crossing and its role in advancing Métis culture, tourism, and economic development.” said President Sandmaier. “We were pleased to welcome Minister Boitchenko and to share how Métis Crossing contributes to Alberta’s tourism sector while creating meaningful cultural experiences grounded in Métis values.”

During the visit, the Minister toured key facilities at Métis Crossing, including the Sky Watching Domes, engaged in a cultural information session, and met with staff and community members to better understand the site’s cultural and economic significance to the Métis Nation. The tour concluded with a visit to the surrounding lands, including the bison herds and the Métis Crossing Solar Farm, Salay Prayzaan.

President Sandmaier emphasized the importance of continued engagement with provincial leadership and extended an open invitation to members of Alberta’s Legislative Assembly and Cabinet to visit Métis Crossing and experience its cultural, economic, and tourism significance firsthand.
