Appointed on June 11 2025, Sarah Wolfe serves as the Secretary of Records for the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. A proud young Métis woman, Sarah comes from the Cardinal and Ladouceur families of Fort Smith and Lac La Biche. She is a graduate of the University of Alberta, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2024.
For more than 15 years, Sarah has been an active and dedicated member of the Métis community through her love of performance. As a professional singer, she has graced stages across Alberta, performing at events such as the Salute to Excellence at the Winspear, the Belcourt Brosseau Métis Awards, Métis Fest, and various Métis General Assemblies. Her voice has also been featured at events hosted by the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and its affiliates, as well as the City of Edmonton, the Government of Alberta, and Edmonton Public Schools. Beyond public events, Sarah has shared her gift of song at weddings and celebrations of life, bringing warmth and connection to the communities she serves.
In addition to her passion for music, Sarah is deeply rooted in her cultural traditions. She honours the teachings passed down from her mother and grandmother through moccasin-making, beading, and sewing. Currently, she is studying to become fluent in Michif, another step in her lifelong commitment to preserving and revitalizing Métis culture and language.
As Secretary of Records, Sarah’s mandate focuses on strengthening transparency, accessibility, and accountability within the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. Her responsibilities include maintaining and modernizing the Public Registry to ensure all laws, treaties, and official records are accurately documented and accessible to Citizens. She is committed to increasing meeting efficiency by developing standards for recording and reviewing minutes, enhancing transparency through the public sharing of Citizens’ Council meetings, and safeguarding government archives and historical records. Sarah also plays a key role in streamlining cross-departmental information sharing, acts as a signing authority for official documents, represents the Executive as a board member of the Métis Education Foundation, and is leading the development of a Regulation to recognize and protect the official marks of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. She is also working towards increasing access for Citizens to Citizen Council meetings through developing regulations that will enable future meetings to be livestreamed.
Outside of her professional and community commitments, Sarah enjoys spending time with her family, practicing traditional crafts, and continuing her language studies. Whether through song, artistry, or governance, Sarah Wolfe exemplifies a deep commitment to the Métis Nation and to building a strong, transparent, and culturally grounded government for future generations.
