Provincial Secretary Appointed to Premier’s Council on MMIWG2S+ People

Posted on: Jan 17, 2025

Edmonton, AB (January 17, 2025) — The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is proud to announce the appointment of Lisa Wolfe, Secretary of Education, Training, Language and Veterans Affairs and Citizens’ Representative for Lac Ste. Anne Métis District 8 to the Premier’s Council on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two Spirit Plus People (MMIWG2S+). This appointment represents another important step in the Otipemisiwak Métis Government’s relationship with the Province of Alberta and ensures that the voices of Métis Citizens will influence efforts to prevent violence and increase the safety and security of Indigenous women, girls and Two Spirit people.

“Métis representation is essential as the Government of Alberta moves forward with policies and programs to implement Alberta’s Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Roadmap,” said Andrea Sandmaier, President of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. “While there is a tremendous amount of work to be done, Secretary Wolfe’s appointment is a positive step toward continued action to address this crisis affecting Indigenous communities not only in Alberta, but across Canada.”

The Premier’s Council on MMIWG2S+ has been given a mandate to work with provincial government ministries to apply the principles of the Roadmap when developing programs and policies related to violence prevention, safety and economic security. They will also apply their expertise and lived experience in reviewing public awareness campaigns and education initiatives related to Indigenous women, girls and Two-Spirit people and MMIWG2S+ people.

“I am humbled to have the opportunity to serve on the Premier’s Council on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two Spirit Plus People,” said Lisa Wolfe, Secretary of Education, Training and Veterans Affairs of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. “My commitment is to bring the collective voice and wisdom of our Citizens to the table to ensure that their lived experience informs Alberta’s direction and lead to long overdue, meaningful change.”

Secretary Wolfe’s appointment became effective in the fall of 2024 and she was appointed to three-year term on the Premier’s Council on MMIWG2S+.
