President's Corner: September 5, 2025

Posted on: Sep 05, 2025

What an incredible Citizens’ Gathering we shared! To everyone who travelled long distances to take part in the conversations, maarsii. I also want to recognize that Métis Crossing is not an easy place to get to. For many of you, attending meant long hours on the road, or taking time away from work. Thank you for making that effort to be with us. And for those who could not attend in person, please know that your voices are always with us in spirit and through the work you do at home in your Districts. "Elections are an opportunity to bring in new energy, new ideas, and new leaders who will help guide our government into the future." Andrea Sandmaier, President of the Otipemisiwak Metis Government.

I was inspired by the strength of our Citizens’ voices throughout the weekend. From the insightful questions to the Citizens’ Proposals, from the laughter around the tables to the important conversations, every moment reminded me of the resilience and determination of our people. This is the heart of self-government, it is not something done for us, but by us through your ideas, votes, and leadership.

As we look ahead, the Chief Electoral Officer has announced a series of elections for this fall, including a Provincial Women’s Representative By-Election. The full list can be found at: www.metiselectionsab.com.

These elections are vital to ensuring every part of our government has strong, accountable leadership. They are also opportunities to bring in new energy, new ideas, and new leaders who will help guide our government into the future.

I encourage every Citizen to stay engaged in this process. Make sure you are ready to cast your vote when the time comes. And if you feel that call to serve, consider putting your name forward. Running for office is a serious responsibility, but it is also one of the most meaningful ways you can give back to your community.

For those who are considering putting their name forward, you can visit the Chief Electoral Officer’s website for information and guidance on the process at www.metiselectionsab.com/candidates

We know that building a government rooted in our values takes all of us. Maarsii for your continued trust and commitment. Together, we are writing the next chapter of our story, one that is strong, proud, and Métis.
