President's Corner: February 20, 2026

This weekend, we gather for our Promoting and Increasing Cultural Safety (PICS) Conference and I could not be more proud of what this moment represents for our government.
PICS is about creating spaces where our Citizens, especially our women, youth, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ relatives, feel seen, heard, and safe. It is about having honest conversations, listening deeply, and committing to action so that every Métis person feels respected in our communities, our workplaces, and within our government.
As we continue to build and implement our government, cultural safety must be at the heart of that work. Laws and structures matter, but so do relationships and how we treat one another.
This conference brings together leaders, Knowledge Holders, community members, and advocates who are shaping what safer and more inclusive spaces look like in practice. It reflects the values rooted in our Constitution and is an important reminder that governance is not just about policy. It is about people.
Our ancestors looked after one another. They understood that strength comes from community, from lifting each other up, and from protecting those who are most vulnerable.
I want to thank everyone who helped bring this gathering to life, and every Citizen who is participating. Your voices matter. Your experiences matter. And your leadership, at every age, matters.
This weekend is also an important moment in our governance journey. Voting in the Women’s Representative by-election concludes this Sunday, with in-person voting taking place that day. I strongly encourage all Citizens over the age of 16 to cast their ballot. Our Women’s Representative plays a critical role in ensuring women’s voices are heard at the Citizens’ Council table. Taking part in this election is one more way we strengthen our democracy and uphold the principles in our Constitution.
