President's Corner: December 27, 2025

Posted on: Dec 16, 2025

As 2025 comes to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on this past year and to thank you, our Citizens. The trust, patience, and strength you continue to show as we build our government together is the foundation that makes this work possible.

This year marked another important chapter in our journey as the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. We continued the steady, deliberate work of putting our Constitution into action and strengthening the foundations of a modern Métis government. A government that reflects our values, history, and responsibilities we have to one another. That work is not always fast or easy, but it is necessary and being done with care, transparency, and accountability.

Across Alberta, District Councils continued to move forward in their transition to self-government, bringing leadership closer to Citizens and ensuring local voices shape local priorities.

We made progress in areas that directly affect daily life like housing, health and wellness, children and families, emergency management, culture, education, and economic development. Including, new work to reclaim our role in caring for Métis children and families, and the Healing Waters Recovery Community. Each of these efforts is about ensuring Métis people can thrive in their own communities and can heal.

This year also reminded me how important it is for us to come together, share our stories, and reconnect with our heritage. Whether at Citizens’ Gatherings, Métis Week events, community celebrations, or smaller meetings across the province, being together grounds us. These moments allow us to listen, share stories, and remember that our government exists to serve families, Elders, youth, and future generations.

To me, that is what the holidays are about, taking time to be together, to reflect on our shared history, and to carry those connections with us into the year ahead

As we look ahead to 2026, our focus is clear: We will continue to put our Citizens first.

We will continue advancing self-government, protecting Métis rights, strengthening our institutions, and building partnerships that respect who we are as a distinct people. We will keep listening to Citizens and ensuring your voices guide the decisions we make. Most importantly, we will keep doing the work that prepares the next generation to inherit a strong, self-determined, Métis Nation.

With the holiday season in full swing, I hope you are able to take a minute to slow down and spend time with those you love. Whether that be around the kitchen table, at community gatherings, or out on the land.

On behalf of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, I wish you and your families a safe and joyful New Years.

I look forward to walking into 2026 together.
