Otipemisiwak Métis Government Launches Métis Week 2025
Posted on: Nov 15, 2025
Edmonton, AB – The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is proud to launch Métis Week 2025, taking place November 15 to 22, 2025. The annual celebration brings Métis Citizens together across Alberta to honour Métis culture, history and resilience, while commemorating the life and legacy of Louis Riel.
Several Métis Week events will take place in Edmonton this year, beginning on November 15 with the annual Louis Riel 6-kilometre Walk and Service. That same day, people can visit the Fall Métis Market at Kingsway Mall’s HyperPOP Space. The week will include cultural, educational and commemorative activities, and will feature a ceremony at the Alberta Legislature on Sunday, November 16, marking the anniversary of Louis Riel’s wrongful execution.
“Métis Week reminds us that our fight for recognition did not end with Louis Riel,” said Andrea Sandmaier, President of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. “His dream of a self-governing Métis Nation lives within each of us. It lives in our language, our music and our unshakable belief that Métis people deserve to stand as equals in the country we helped build.”
Métis Week 2025 will include a Seniors’ Tea honouring Métis Elders and Knowledge Keepers, and a Youth Open House highlighting Métis youth leadership. The week will conclude with the Delia Gray Gala, which celebrates the late Delia Gray’s lasting contributions to the Métis Nation.
Métis Week continues to be a time for Métis Citizens to gather in celebration, remembrance and unity, strengthening connections across Alberta and reaffirming the Nation’s commitment to Métis rights, recognition and self-government.
