Posted on: Jun 13, 2025

Edmonton, June 13, 2025 – The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is proud to once again host Alberta Métis Fest from June 13–14. The celebration highlights Métis culture, history and traditions. Throughout June, National Indigenous History Month, Métis Citizens and all Albertans are invited to attend events in communities across Alberta, including this weekend’s seventh annual Alberta Métis Fest.

From live Métis music and dance performances to traditional food, artisan markets, and family-friendly activities, Alberta Métis Fest showcases the resilience, creativity, and rich traditions of Métis people.

Métis Citizens, families, and the public are invited to gather at:

Cultural Gathering Centre
17339 Victoria Trail
Smoky Lake, AB T0A 3C0

“Alberta Métis Fest is a homecoming. It’s a reminder of where we come from and where we are going. It’s also opportunity to reflect on what our people have built to date,” said President Andrea Sandmaier.

“I would like to personally invite all Albertans to come and celebrate Métis culture with us,” said Secretary of Harvesting & Culture, Grant Lacombe. “It’s a great chance for our people to connect with each other and celebrate our distinct way of life.”

Highlights of Alberta Métis Fest celebration include:

  • Live performances by Métis musicians and dancers, all of whom are Citizens from Alberta
  • Métis Jamboree
  • Jigging competitions
  • Traditional food tastings and culinary demonstrations
  • Artisan market featuring Métis artisans and vendors
  • Cultural workshops on Métis history, language, and storytelling
  • Children’s activities and community gatherings
