Edmonton, Alberta – Thursday, October 8, 2015
Judgement was reserved on the Daniels Case, which was heard at the Supreme Court of Canada (SCC) today. The case verdict is expected to be delivered within the upcoming year during autumn of 2016. The MNA is hopeful for the outcome of this case, which will shape the future of intergovernmental relations between the Métis Nation and Government of Canada. A ruling in favour of Harry Daniels’ case would mean that the Federal Government is legally mandated to enter consultation with the Métis. This would be a landmark ruling, which would enable open nation-to-nation communications between the Métis Nation and Federal Government in the future.
