Inaugural Convening of Judicial Tribunal

It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the successful inaugural convening of the Judicial Tribunal of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government.
On April 4, 2024, at the Otipemisiwak Métis Government’s head office members of the Tribunal participated in an onboarding session and a swearing-in ceremony, where they each took their Oath of Office. President Sandmaier attended the swearing-in ceremony as a witness.

The Judicial Tribunal is an impartial body of the Judicial Branch of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. Its members are expected to faithfully and impartially exercise their duties under the Constitution and Otipemisiwak Métis Government laws, and possess the authority to decide and prescribe the resolution of disputes in the areas of:
- Citizenship in the Métis Nation within Alberta;
- Election of leadership of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government;
- The interpretation and application of the Constitution;
- The validity, application, and interpretation of Otipemisiwak Métis Government Law, regulation, or policies;
- Actions, inactions, or decisions of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government or its institutions; and
- Contraventions of the Constitution or the Otipemisiwak Métis Government.
The inaugural members of the Judicial Tribunal are:
- Lionel Chartrand – Chairperson
- Arlan Delisle – North Saskatchewan River Territory
- Shea Taylor – Peace River Territory
- John Phillips – Battle River Territory
