Citizen Spotlight: Brianna Lizotte
Posted on: Jan 05, 2026
Brianna Lizotte is a Juno-nominated Métis fiddle player based in Edmonton, Alberta. In 2018, she released her debut album, Scratch ‘Em, before studying music at MacEwan University.
In 2023, Brianna, joined a group of Métis musicians from across Canada at Bathouse Recording Studio in Kingston, Ontario. There, in the same room where The Tragically Hip recorded their hits, the eight talented musicians spent a week recording Métis-style music, while filming the documentary The Beat of Two Cultures, with Indigenous Geographic.
“The thing that kept us together was music and storytelling,” Brianna shared, speaking to the significance of music in Métis culture. “And music and fiddle playing was just another form of storytelling for us to be able to say, ‘This is who we are as people.’ No matter our differences of politics, of culture, of who we are, something that keeps us all grounded is this music. And I think that’s what makes it so special.”
