The Otipemisiwak Métis Government for the Métis Nation within Alberta is excited to welcome Métis, First Nations, and Inuit athletes from all over Canada to Grande Prairie to compete at the 2024 National Aboriginal Hockey Championship. Players include 20 Alberta Métis citizens. The tournament begins today.
“It is extremely exciting for not only our athletes, but their families as well,” says Rebecca Lavallee, Youth Representative and Secretary of Youth & Sport. “Parents won’t have to go as far to see their children compete at the national level, and with many Métis youth on both the male and female teams, our government is very proud.”
“This is the first time NAHC is being hosted in Alberta and I am thrilled to welcome all the athletes and their families to the Grande Prairie Métis District 13,” says Shannon Dunfield, Secretary of Records and Citizens’ Representative for Grande Prairie Métis District 13. “The Otipemisiwak Métis Government has 20 Métis athletes who are representing Team Alberta. I am excited to see, and cheer on, some familiar faces, and looking forward to seeing some new ones.”
