Our wellness is a reflection of our community’s wellness.

We invite our Citizens to participate in our virtual Métis Holistic Wellness Circles. Facilitated by The Weaving Wellness Centre, a Métis-led team of dedicated helping professionals, this online series offers a holistic approach to wellness through a culturally enriched Métis lens.

Participants can engage in as many of the following sessions:

Dot Art

February 15, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Facilitators: Sandra Gosling and Jordyn Playne

In this workshop, you will gain insight into the historical and cultural significance of dot art within Métis traditions and learn how dot art serves as a visual storytelling medium. Facilitators will discuss the symbolism embedded in Métis dot art, understanding how each dot represents a connection to culture, purpose, and personal identity. Explore the meditative and therapeutic aspects of this art form as you create a vibrant and meaningful piece of art. By delving into the beauty of Métis dot art, this workshop seeks to empower individuals to express their emotions and connect with the healing rhythms of creative expression.

Land-Based Healing

February 22, 6:00 p.m.  – 7:30 p.m.

Facilitators: Sandra Gosling and Shane Forrest

This workshop invites participants to explore the therapeutic power of reconnecting to the land. We will discuss the importance of land-based cultural practices in maintaining mental health. We will also reflect on the role of reconnecting with the land in fostering a sense of identity and resilience as Métis people. Participants will be provided with tangible tools to reconnect with the land and our ancestors through meditation and visualization. This workshop is designed to empower participants to find solace and connection through Métis land-based healing practices.

Storytelling

February 29, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Facilitators: Sandra Gosling and Rylee Godin

Explore how oral traditions have been integral in shaping the cultural identity of Métis people and fostering our resilience. Understand how sharing personal stories contributes to our mental health and immerse yourself in the rich oral traditions of Métis storytelling. There will be space for participants to share their own stories or reflections. Join us on this virtual storytelling adventure as we explore the healing art of narratives and celebrate the strength found in the diverse stories of our community.

Traditional Plant Knowledge and Teas

March 7, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Facilitators: Sandra Gosling and Shane Forrest

Step into the world of traditional Métis plant knowledge and discover the profound connection between our plant kin, tea making, and mental health. With the support of a Métis knowledge carrier, participants will receive teachings about Métis plant knowledge, the therapeutic benefits of some of our plant relations, and experience the calming ceremony of tea making. Participants will be guided in a mindful tea ceremony, savoring the flavours and aromas of the custom tea blend, centering the ritual of teatime as a practice of self-care.
