Honouring Métis Health through Trauma-Informed and Culturally Safe Care

Honouring Métis Health through Trauma-Informed and Culturally Safe Care. That was the theme of the 2026 Métis National Health Policy Forum. President Andrea Sandmaier, Secretary of Health, Wellbeing & Seniors Kaila Mitchell and additional members of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government’s cabinet were in Ottawa this week to gather with the Métis National Council, Métis governments, the Government of Canada and other health partners to share our successes, opportunities, and experiences with each other.
Our Health Department continues to lead the way with the development of our Métis Recovery Continuum, a Métis-designed, culturally grounded approach to wellness and healing. The work underway reflects both the strength of our Citizens and the dedication of the team advancing it.
Métis-determined healthcare is not a future aspiration; it is already happening.
