Métis Youth Diversion Community Engagement Sessions: Ohpina LiMichif pikiskona “Lifting up Métis voices”
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is committed to improving outcomes for Métis youth by ensuring justice initiatives reflect Métis voices, values, and cultural realities. This engagement offers an opportunity for Métis youth, families, and Citizens to guide the development of a Métis Youth Diversion Program – a culturally grounded, community-led approach that focuses on accountability, healing, and belonging.
By gathering community input, we aim to identify supports, barriers, and priorities that will shape a diversion model rooted in Métis culture and responsive to the unique needs of youth across Alberta.
TO REGISTER, EMAIL JUSTICE@METIS.ORG
This gathering will create space for open dialogue, shared healing, and cultural connection around:
- The experiences of Métis youth within the justice system
- The impacts of incarceration on youth
- The importance of healing, identity, and belonging through Métis culture
This initiative is a blend of in-person and virtual sessions that bring together the following Métis Albertans:
- Parents, caregivers, and guardians
- Youth
- Community/Citizens
- Elders/Knowledge Holders
