Otipemisiwak Métis Government Announces New Cabinet

Posted on: Jun 18, 2025

Edmonton, AB (June 18, 2025) – On June 5, 2025 President Andrea Sandmaier announced a restructuring of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government Cabinet to better respond to shifting priorities and advance Métis rights, self-government, and prosperity for Métis Citizens in Alberta.

At the first meeting of the new Cabinet the following week, President Sandmaier delivered new mandate letters to each Provincial Secretary, outlining their responsibilities and guiding their strategic focus over the next 12 months.

The Cabinet will play a critical role in negotiating a modern-day treaty that secures and protects our rights and self-determination, while also guiding the delivery of vital programs and services for Métis families across Alberta’s five Métis Territories.

Working strategically, the Cabinet will strengthen nation-to-nation and government-to-government relationships, protect Métis rights and resources, and promote cultural preservation and economic opportunities.

“Together, our Cabinet will honour our past, serve our Citizens today, and forge a strong and united legacy,” said President Sandmaier. “Marsii, thank you, to each Provincial Secretary for answering this call to leadership.”
