AMNTS is a non-profit society dedicated to the conservation and stewardship of Métis-led Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs) in Alberta. All IPCAs established by the Otipemisiwak Métis Government will be transferred to AMNTS to hold, manage, and conserve for future generations.

AMNTS is currently seeking charitable status to expand its funding eligibility and gain access to additional conservation tools such as conservation easements, which can offer significant tax benefits to land donors.

In 2024, the Otipemisiwak Métis Government established the Alberta Métis Nature Trust Fund with the Edmonton Community Foundation. This endowment fund is intended to offset the cost of maintaining IPCA properties (e.g., paying taxes, insurance, fence, and signage upkeep). Once AMNTS obtains charitable status, it will receive and manage the annual revenue from the Alberta Métis Nature Trust Fund.
