President's Corner - March 22, 2025

Posted on: Mar 21, 2025

It has been a busy few weeks for our Métis Government, filled with opportunities to celebrate, connect, and strengthen our community.

Earlier this month, we came together for the Michif Women’s Gathering, where we celebrated the strength, leadership, and legacy of Métis women. This year’s theme, “Honouring Our Aunties,” reminded us of the vital role our matriarchs play in preserving our culture, passing down knowledge, and guiding future generations. Métis women have always been at the heart of our communities, leading, advocating, and breaking barriers. I want to thank everyone who attended and contributed to this meaningful gathering, including our Women’s Representative, Secretary Grauman.

On Friday, I had the honour of attending the Official Announcement of the 2027 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) Dates. This event really shows what we can achieve when we come together as Indigenous nations. The 2027 NAIG, set to take place in Calgary, will be a platform for our youth to showcase their athleticism, resilience, and cultural pride. Sport has always been a vital part of our way of life, teaching discipline, perseverance, and the power of community. I look forward to seeing our Métis athletes compete on this national stage in 2027.

Looking ahead, we are preparing for an important economic initiative: the Otipemisiwak Métis Government of the Métis Nation within Alberta Business Mixer & Economic Development Summit next week. This event is an opportunity for Métis entrepreneurs, whether they are running small businesses, medium-sized enterprises, or large corporations, to connect, collaborate, and chart a path forward. Our goal is to build a strong Métis economy that fosters growth, prosperity, and self-determination. I encourage all Métis business owners and leaders to take part. Register here.

Thank you all for your ongoing dedication and engagement. Whether in sport, culture, or economic development, our collective efforts continue to strengthen our Nation.
