The Métis Cancer Care Course is available to cancer care providers in Alberta and across Canada.

This course provides an overview of who Métis people are, including their culture, history, approaches to health and well-being, and cancer care experiences.

Course Topics include:

  • Understanding Métis peoples’ distinct culture and identity
  • Understanding historical and intergenerational trauma and the social determinants of health
  • Employing culturally safe strategies when communicating with Métis clients
  • Recognizing the structure and role of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government in supporting the health and wellness of Métis Albertans
  • Recognizing the distinct health status of Métis Albertans compared to other Indigenous groups

This short e-learning public course is based on a larger more in-depth e-learning course called Métis Cancer Care which is available at no cost to cancer care providers across Canada through the SE Health First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Program’s e-learning platform @YourSide Colleague (fnim.learn.sehc.com).
