The Forgotten People

Due to inaccurate records, we are still learning about the extent of trauma experienced by the Métis community. This is why Métis people are often referred to as the “Forgotten People” and until now their stories have fallen on deaf ears. We are dedicated to creating a safe space for Survivors and their families to share their stories.
We were honoured to hear the stories of several Survivors and to compile them into a short documentary called “The Forgotten People: Métis Residential School Survivors”. We thank the participants for sharing their stories of survival and resilience.
Angie Crerar
Angie Crerar is a beloved pillar of the Métis Community and a Survivor of the St. Joseph’s Residential School in Fort Resolution in the Northwest Territories. She is a member of our Truth and Reconciliation Advisory Board and was part of the delegation sent to Vatican City to meet with Pope Francis. Angie’s story is one of resilience, strength, and above all else survival.
Storm Cardinal
Storm is a young Métis man from Fort Chipewyan, Alberta. He is also a Survivor of the intergenerational trauma that is a direct result of the residential school system. Storm was able to share his powerful story at the recent National Gathering for unmarked burials conference in Iqaluit, NWT.
