Statement from Métis Nation of Alberta regarding updated curriculum

Yesterday the Alberta government announced updates to its draft K-6 curriculum.
Rupertsland Institute (RLI), an affiliate of the Métis Nation of Alberta with mandates in education, training and research, looks forward to further engagement in the Alberta Education curriculum.
RLI is waiting to receive the new social studies curriculum containing Métis content for review and comment.
“No history of Canada can exclude the historic and contemporary contributions of the Métis people and we look forward to providing our input on the Métis components of the updated curriculum,” said Lorne Gladu, Rupertsland Institute CEO. “There is no greater tool to bridge reconciliation than what is taught in the classroom, and right now, Alberta has the opportunity to teach the real story of this land, and we are eager to provide input on the Métis experience.”
