Register for your 5-year MNA Park Pass

MNA Citizens can receive a free 5-Year Entry Pass to act as a vehicle identifier. Passes stay in the vehicle, at all times, visible to Parks Canada staff and replace the need to show your Citizen Card at park gates for a daily permit.

Indigenous Peoples Open Doors Program

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government of the Métis Nation within Alberta and Parks Canada (PCA) are proud to offer a free, custom Park Pass available to Citizens of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government through our Provincial Office or online form. By providing free access to national parks and historic sites, the partnership encourages Indigenous peoples’ reconnection with these heritage places.

The partnership began in 2018 with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding, allowing MNA citizens access to the Indigenous Peoples Open Doors Program. Immediately following the signing, Métis citizens could access parks for free by showing their MNA card. In Summer 2021 the program expanded to offer a 5-Year Entry Pass. These custom passes can be displayed in cars and ID is no longer required to enter the parks.

Citizens without passes can still show their Citizenship Card for free daily entry.

*A note on Kananaskis Country Passes

The MNA Parks Pass does not provide access to provincial parks like Kananaskis Country. It only applies to national parks and historic sites within Alberta.

In 2021 the Alberta government introduced the Kananaskis Conservation Pass. Vehicles parked at provincial park and public land sites in Kananaskis Country and the Bow Valley need a Conservation Pass. Buy your Kananaskis Country Conservation Pass here.

  • Métis citizens have a long and deep connection to the land and this initiative is very meaningful to many Métis people throughout Alberta. Partnerships like these are an important part of reconciliation and we’re proud to work with Parks Canada on this significant endeavour.
