CONTEST RULES & REGULATIONS

 

General Rules and Entry:

  1. The competition is a skill-based competition and is open to all skill levels. No purchase is necessary to enter the competition or to win a prize.
  2. Entry for the competition opens on June 14, 2025 at 11 a.m. There will be a sign-up table located near the main stage.
  3. All competition entries must be done in-person at Métis Crossing prior to 3 p.m. June 14, 2025.
  4. You must wear proper footwear (3-point deduction if not wearing shoes). No clickers or tap shoes allowed.
  5. Contestants must be ready when scheduled — competition begins at 4 p.m. SHARP on June 14, 2025.
  6. Each contestant will be assigned a NUMBER that must be visibly displayed.
  7. The 3 highest tallied score will be the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.
  8. In the event of a tie, the entrants will be asked to do another round of jigging (2 or 3 changes depending on the category). Previous scores will be included in the new tally.
  9. A fiddler will be provided for the duration of the competition and will play the Red River Jig.

 

Eligibility

The competition is open to all citizens of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and self-identifying Métis. Employees of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, their affiliates, advertising and promotional agencies, service providers, performers and judges are not eligible to enter the competition or to win a prize.

 

 Jigging (Red River Jig) Competition Categories

  • Mini Métis: 0 to 6 years of age
  • Juniors between 7 and 11 years of age
  • Youth between 12 and 17 years of age
  • Adults between 18 and 59 years of age
  • Senior age category 60 years of age and older

All age categories will have 2 changes.

 

Judging

All judging decisions are final and binding and not subject to review or appeal.

This is a traditional jigging (Red River Jig) competition.

There will be a panel of three judges.

The jigging will be judged by skill, timing and creativity.

 

Prizes

In total, there are 12 prizes for the following categories: Junior, Youth, Adult, Senior.

All registered in the Mini Métis 0-6 age category will receive a prize.

 

Each age category winner will be announced prior to the next age category competing, they will be receiving cash prizes that they will need to sign and pick up their cash directly after the competition on June 14, 2025.

 

Prizes of the amount indicated will be awarded in each of the following jigging categories:

 

1ST Place           2ND Place        3RD Place

Ages 0–6: $25 for participation

Ages 7–11: 1st place – $500; 2nd place – $250.00; 3rd place – $150

Ages 12–17: 1st place – $500; 2nd place – $250.00; 3rd place – $150

Ages 18–59: 1st place – $500; 2nd place – $250.00; 3rd place – $150

Ages 60+: 1st place – $500; 2nd place – $250.00; 3rd place – $150

 

Winner Confirmation, Declaration of Eligibility and Release

All prizes must be accepted as awarded in these rules and regulations and cannot be transferred to another individual, substituted for another prize, or exchanged in whole or in part for any other prize. If for any reason a selected entrant has not been picked up and signed for any prize it will be forfeited.

 

The decision of the competition administrators on all issues of competition entry and qualification is final and binding and is not subject to review or appeal.

 

General Terms and Conditions

By entering the competition, entrants agree to abide by these competition rules and regulations and authorize the competition administrators and, at the competition administrators’ direction, their advertising and promotional agencies and their respective employees or other representatives to broadcast, publish and otherwise use winner’s name, photograph, image, video, statements regarding the competition or any prize, place of residence and (or) voice for publicity purposes, without any form of remuneration, including without limitation, on any website operated by or on behalf of the competition administrators.

 

The validity of any competition entry is subject to verification by the competition administrators.

 

If any entry information is found to be false or misleading, or if an entrant is otherwise ineligible to enter the competition or to win a prize, the competition administrators reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to disqualify that entrant.

 

By entering or attempting to enter the competition, each entrant and/or purported entrant agrees: (i) to release, discharge, and forever hold harmless the competition group entities, and their respective officers, directors, employees, shareholders, agents and other representatives (collectively, the “Releasees”) from any and all liability, claims, actions, damages, injuries, demands, manner of actions, causes of action, suits, debts, duties, accounts, bonds, covenants, warranties, indemnities, claims over, contracts and liabilities of whatever nature or kind arising out of, participation or attempted participation in the competition, compliance or non-compliance with these competition rules and regulations and acceptance of any prize. As noted above in these rules and regulations, prior to being declared a winner, a potential winner must complete and return to the competition administrators a declaration of eligibility and release in the form, and within the time, required by the competition administrators before declaring a winner and receiving a prize. The declaration of eligibility and release will, among other matters, grant the competition administrators permission to publish in print, broadcast or online, the winner’s name and likeness without remuneration. By entering the competition, an entrant agrees to the broadcasting of the entrant’s performance as provided in these rules and regulations.

 

Personal information gathered about competition entrants in connection with this competition will be kept in a secure and confidential database, will not be rented, or sold and will only be used as required/permitted by law or by these rules and regulations.

 

This competition is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws. Void where prohibited.
