Before You Go!

Alberta Métis Fest takes place on June 13–14 at Métis Crossing, Alberta’s first and only Métis cultural interpretive centre which is located 1.5 hours northeast of Edmonton and 10 minutes South of Smoky Lake on the Victoria Trail.Google Map

What to expect?

Join us for two thrilling days filled with Métis culture and celebration including music performances such as the Métis Jamboree, and the Alberta Métis Music Showcase, and our new Square Dance Showcase! Plus check out our famous Jigging Competition, or our huge Vendor Market, Cultural Activites and much more!

  • This is an all-ages event and everyone is welcome to attend!
  • There will be no alcohol permitted on the festival grounds.
  • Designated smoking areas will be marked throughout the grounds, please stay in the designated areas.
  • For ease of access of seniors and those with mobility issues, golf carts with multiple stop locations are set up around the festival grounds. Please reach out to festival volunteers if you require assistance.
  • Dinner will be provided free-of-charge for both days (please see Schedule), if you require additional food or drink, there will be also food trucks on location, on Saturday, June 14 only.

What to bring?

  • Please dress for the weather. Feel free to bring a water bottle, sunscreen, hat, and any additional apparel you require.
  • Please bring your lawn chairs and blankets! When available, please offer seating to seniors and those with mobility issues.
  • We recommend bringing your own food, snacks, and refreshments. Though food trucks will be on site, we recommend bringing your own snacks for your convenience, and if you have any dietary restrictions.
  • There will be service ATM’s on site. There will be ATM’s located near the artisan market and also the cultural gathering centre. But we do recommend that guests bring cash or other payment options – just in case.
  • There is limited cell service. Be prepared to not have access
    to your phone or GPS.

When is the 7th Annual Alberta Métis Fest?

The 7th Annual Alberta Métis Fest will take place from June 13–June 14, 2025.

Do I need to register or purchase a ticket/admission?

No, this is a free public event. You do not need to register or purchase a ticket, or pay admission to attend Alberta Métis Fest.

What is happening on Friday, June 13, 2025

On Friday, please join us for dinner, which will be a wonderful fish fry! After dinner, we will spend the evening playing Bingo! Following Bingo, we will enjoy a Métis Kitchen Party, and an Open Mic Night! Be sure to sign up! Please see the agenda for more information.

What is happening on Saturday, June 14, 2025

Join us for Grand Entry and opening ceremonies at 10 am. The day’s entertainment starts at 11:30am, guests will be entertained by a great line-up of Métis Performers! Guests can also participate in cultural activities, children and youth activities, door prizes and visit the Artisan Market. Be sure to enter the jigging competition to win some cash prizes! After the FREE bison dinner, the evening will include a square dance showcase and live music! Please see the agenda for more information.

When is the jigging competition and what are the age groups?

The jigging competition will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 4 p.m.–5 p.m. The age groups for the jigging competition are as follows: 0–6, 7–12, 13–17, 18–59, 60+

Will there be children’s activities available?

Yes! Family activities include face painting, jigging lessons, bubble party, and so much more! Children must always be accompanied by a supervising adult.

Will there be youth activities available?

Yes! Youth activities will include voyageur games, lawn games, and more! All activities will be drop in, and don’t require prior sign up.

Are washrooms on site?

Yes, washrooms, including accessible, will be available on site.

Are there ATMs available?

There will be an ATM on site. It is recommended that guests bring cash or other payment options.

Will the 7th Annual Alberta Métis Fest go ahead if it is raining?

Yes, rain or shine the 7th Annual Alberta Métis Fest will take place.

Where can I park?

Parking will be available in the overflow field across from Métis Crossing. Parking is free for all guests.

Parking on the event ground parking lots (campground, artisan market, Cultural Centre, and Lodge) is restricted to event parking pass holders. There will be golf cart shuttles to assist event attendees with mobility challenges to travel to the event grounds from the overflow public parking area.

Is the event indoors or outdoors?

Weather permitting the 7th Annual Alberta Métis Fest will take place entirely outdoors. If the weather does not allow the event to go ahead outdoors, everything will be moved inside the Gathering Centre at Métis Crossing.

What should I bring?

Please dress for the weather. Feel free to bring a lawn chair, water bottle, sunscreen, hat, and any additional apparel you require.

Emergency Response and Evacuation Plan

The safety and well-being of all attendees at Alberta Métis Fest is our top priority. In the event of an emergency, our dedicated team is prepared to respond swiftly and effectively to ensure the safety of everyone on-site.

Emergency Procedures:

  • In case of a medical emergency, please locate the nearest First Aid station or notify a staff member immediately for assistance. There are two dedicated First Aid stations on site. One located next to the food trucks, which can be found near to the area by the Cultural Gathering Center. The other by the Artisan Market near the Campground. You can also speak to any staff member, and they will find a first aid supplier for you.
  • If there is a fire or other life-threatening situation, please alert an event staff member and  follow the instructions provided by event staff and proceed to the designated evacuation areas as directed.
  • Stay calm and assist others as needed, especially those who may require assistance, such as children, elderly individuals, or individuals with disabilities.

Evacuation Plan:

  • In the event of an evacuation, announcements will be made over the public address system and via other communication channels, providing instructions on the evacuation routes and assembly points.
  • Follow the designated evacuation routes to the nearest safe assembly point, where attendance will be taken to ensure everyone is accounted for.
  • Event staff and emergency personnel will be on hand to provide assistance and guidance throughout the evacuation process.

Communication:

  • Stay informed by paying attention to announcements, signage, and instructions from event staff.
  • Additional information and updates will be provided via the Alberta Metis Fest website, social media channels, and other communication channels as necessary.

Your Cooperation is Essential:

  • We kindly ask all attendees to familiarize themselves with the emergency procedures and evacuation routes outlined above and to cooperate fully with event staff and emergency personnel in the event of an emergency.
