Tansi! My name is Ava Nastiuk. I am a Métis woman born and raised on Treaty 6 territory. I recently started learning beadwork in 2020 as a way to cope with my personal struggles during the pandemic. I self-taught myself with tutorials online along with support from my mom and my kookum. My kookum also helped me learn how to sew and make dreamcatchers. I find that beadwork has become a form of therapy for me as well as a way to connect with my heritage. I encourage everyone to give it a try! I always thought it was too late to try because I didn’t have the chance to grow up learning that much about my culture so I felt like I had nowhere to start from but I’m glad I gave it a chance because it helped me discover and educate myself.
