President Sandmaier Appoints Gabrielle Blatz as the Provincial Secretary of Women, Gender Equity & Inclusivity

Posted on: May 22, 2026

President Andrea Sandmaier has announced that Gabrielle Blatz will join the Otipemisiwak Métis Government’s Cabinet, effective May 19, 2026, as the Provincial Secretary of Women, Gender Equity &  Inclusivity.

As part of this Cabinet transition, Secretary Rebecca Lavallee will return to her original portfolio as Provincial Secretary of Youth & Sport.

“I am thrilled to welcome Secretary Blatz to Cabinet,” said President Sandmaier. “In her time as Women’s Representative her experience, dedication, and passion for our Nation and Citizens have truly shone through. I know she will be a strong voice for Métis women, girls, and gender-diverse Citizens across our government.”

“I am honoured to take on this portfolio and the responsibility President Sandmaier has entrusted to me,” said Secretary Gabrielle Blatz. “I look forward to carrying out my mandate by advancing equity and inclusion for Métis women, girls, and 2SLGBTQIA+ Citizens across our government. Together, we will continue working to ensure every Citizen feels seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.”

In returning to her original Cabinet role, Secretary Lavallee will focus on advancing initiatives that support Métis youth and sport programming across the Homeland.

“I want to warmly welcome Secretary Blatz to Cabinet,” said Secretary Lavallee. “It has been a privilege to serve Citizens through the Gender Equity portfolio, and I am proud of the work we have advanced together. I am equally grateful for the opportunity to return to my original portfolio and continue advocating for Métis youth and sport at the Cabinet table and beyond.”
