Diabetes Project

Métis health and well-being are at the forefront of every initiative developed by our Health Department. Gathering information on the health of Métis Albertans is essential in creating and advancing relevant programs and services for our community.

Living with diabetes has its challenges and we want to learn more about how it impacts your life.

In collaboration with the University of Alberta, our Health Department is currently looking for information about living with diabetes, accessing diabetes care, and other experiences related to diabetes symptoms and treatment from Métis Albertans.

If you are Métis, living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, and are 18 years or older, please share your experiences by completing the survey and taking part in one-on-one interviews.

Participate in both or choose just one!

Together, we can pave way to a healthier future for all.

This survey is now closed.

Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences about living with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. We were able to gather 600 survey responses. It is input like yours that allows our Health Department to move forward in its mission of improving the health and well-being of our community.

Wondering if you’re a winner of one of 5 $100 pre-paid VISA cards? The draw has taken place and the recipients have been contacted directly.

If you missed the chance to share your experience of living with diabetes in the survey, we will also be offering one-on-one phone interviews in Fall 2020.

When it comes to living with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, these interviews will feature deeper discussions touching on topics surrounding:

  • Diabetes-related care and supports in your community

Métis Traditions and Diabetes

  • How someone living with diabetes can stay healthy and connected to their culture
  • How Métis culture may play a role in diabetes

Challenges and Supports for Managing Diabetes

If you have completed the survey, this is your chance to share your experiences in a more personal and in-depth setting over the phone.

Participants will receive a $50 honorarium for their time and input.
