Rupertsland Institute Community Emergency Support Program

Community Emergency Support Program

As part of the coordinated effort with the MNA, RLI has established the Community Emergency Support Program (CESP) to provide $75,000 in total to each MNA Region to assist in the development of community-based responses to COVID-19 for three months. CESP is intended to provide immediate support during the pandemic, and each MNA Regional Council will determine how to disperse funds among its respective Locals and citizens.

On behalf of Métis Citizens, the Métis Nation of Alberta and the Rupertsland Institute are here to help!

Allowable activities, among others, may include:

• Hiring staff to provide clerical and informational assistance to Métis citizens in the region. Activities can range from collecting and disseminating up-to-date local information to the community, to helping citizens apply for support programs such as EI, social assistance, tax credit, rent and mortgage payment deferrals, etc.

• Hiring drivers or creating of drive-runs for vulnerable Métis citizens in need of groceries, prescription pick-up, water hauling and other essentials.

• Communicate services available to the community in radio and social media.

• Emergency funds for small medical purposes, or individuals with unexpected needs in the community.

Chomebook Program

The Métis Nation of Alberta and Rupertsland Institute have launched a partnership with schools to provide Chromebook devices to Métis students to participate in Alberta’s virtual K to 12 classrooms. Working closely with the College of Alberta School Superintendents and Métis regional authorities, the Métis Nation is providing these learning devices to Métis students who otherwise have limited access to remote-based learning. This is part of the Métis Nation’s effort to help reduce the impacts of COVID-19 while ensuring Métis students continue to enjoy the learning experience.

Modified Operations Reminder

Due to COVID-19, Rupertsland Institute Métis Centre of Excellence is postponing intake and client applications for labour market training and post-secondary schooling until June 30th tentatively.

Our staff are working remotely temporarily to provide client services to the Métis community; so if you are a Métis individual who is looking for a training opportunity or post-secondary schooling, please reach out to the Rupertsland Institute’s on-line services to access help for career decision-making, skills development, job search and employment counselling.
